Our Story is simple, yet marked by God's loving care for us and His people.

Being missionaries, one may ask why are we in the United States?  This is precisely why:

As missionaries, our Congregation is present on all five continents.  One of its first missions was Saipan, in the Mariana Islands in the South Pacific.  It was on this island where the Lord first called us to a new ministry: to care of the elderly.

It was the war against Japan during Would War II.  The late Msgr. Arthur Tighe, then a young priest from Kansas City and chaplain in the Air Force, landed with his unit on the island.

He met the Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz there.  "If you want to continue your mission on Saipan and on the other Micronesian Islands",  Fr. Tighe told them, "you will need to learn English."  He committed himself to find a place for the Sisters in the United States.

The first Sisters arrived in Kansas City in September of 1946, followed by six more in March of 1947, Our Lady of Mercy Home was established.
